Today we visited the brand new (only opened on May 1st) Documentation Center of National Socialism in Munich. This place did not have any objects or original documents but rather just had information and printed pictures that conveyed information. I felt that this was the only place we visited in the city that truly portrayed the Germans in Munich as perpetrators during the Holocaust. I felt that most of the other sites we saw were built almost out of obligation rather than acknowledgment of Munich's true, significant role in the Holocaust. The Documentation Center was different than the Stadtmuseum in the sense that it was much bigger and more comfortable (not as tight and cramped), the entire interior of the building was white so your attention was strictly devoted to the information. I was also kind of astonished that this was the only place of its kind in Munich, considering the city's role as the beginning place for the rise of national socialism (in addition to the fact that it was only built two weeks ago). Tomorrow we leave Munich and are heading to Nuremberg, the site of the Nuremberg trials. I am anxious to visit another city in Germany and learn about how Nazi criminals of various levels were prosecuted.
